JAX

“You good bro?” Spencer asked as we were locking up.

“What are you talking about?” I said fucking up the lock for the third time.

“You like that girl.” He stated plainly.

“What are you talking about?” I asked, playing stupid.

“You like Dylan.” He stated again; he wasn’t asking. I should’ve known he would know, he picked up on those kinds of things.

“You don’t know what you’re talking about.” I turned and a girl I had been talking to earlier was standing by the door.

“Whatever you say man. I wasn’t the one staring at her all night.” He said heading to his car.

“I’ll catch you later Spence.” I said turning to the girl waiting for me.

“Hey Jax.” she giggled. She was cute, dark hair, shorter, with giant boobs.

“Hey darling, are you waiting for me?” I said, stroking her cheek.

“I was hoping you’d be around to take me home.” I leaned down and kissed her. I’d done this dozens of times but it was different. I don’t know if it was seeing Dylan, if it was Spencer grilling me about her or what but I was not into this.

“Look darling, I’m gonna have to take a raincheck tonight.” I pulled back and took her over to where the Ubers hung out before heading to my apartment.

I tried and failed to get any sleep. If Spencer had noticed me staring at Dylan all night, did Tommy? Did she? Fuck. I hated being so readable but when she was around all my guards went down. I couldn’t help it. I would do anything to spend time with her even if it was hand delivering her drinks all night, a service we didn’t normally offer. I just wanted to know how she was and if she liked me or not. My black lab Sam was pacing feeling my stress. I should go to sleep and make both of us relax but my mind wouldn’t stop racing.

“Jax?” Dylan whispered. “What if you really are my birthday wish? What if I want you? Do you want me too?”

“Dammit Dylan.” I was glad behind me so she couldn’t see how tight my jeans had gotten. My dick responded to her words on my neck instantly. “Please don’t ask me that. I wouldn’t be good for you.”

“I mean it. I’m leaving in a week and I want to experience Jax Evans.” I didn’t have words to answer her. So I spun her around quickly and laid her down. I hovered over her for a minute before leaning down and tasting her sweet lips. I couldn’t get enough, I didn’t deserve even this much let it alone what she was offering. “Please?” she whispered.

And just like that I woke up. Right where I always do. Because that’s the moment I should’ve grabbed her and never let her go. I wasn’t man enough to seal the deal with Dylan when I had the chance and now I probably wouldn’t. Why did she have to come back? Why was I so twisted that she had come back?

I had a text from Katie, I had been ignoring her the last few days. Dylan was haunting my dreams and I couldn’t even text another girl. When I kissed that girl last night I just wanted to feel that one kiss from my dreams, the one from Dylan’s 18th birthday.

Sammy was whining at me so I got my ass out of bed and threw on my running clothes. I headed to the trails by the river and blasted music through my airpods. I would run from her ghost if I could.

Sam started running ahead unusually. I called after him but as I turned the corner and saw the girl who was stopped on the trail petting him I had to laugh out loud. Dylan was standing there in running shorts and sports bra, her hair was a messy bun but it looked intentional. I blushed knowing I had just been dreaming about her less than an hour ago.

“Hey bud, where’s your human?” she asked, taking in all of his kisses.

“Hey Red.” I said catching up to them. I knealt down to Sammy and whispered in his ear, “good boy.”

“What are you doing up here so early? Didn’t you just get off of work a couple of hours ago?” She eyed me suspiciously taking a drink of her water bottle.

“Couldn’t sleep. Had a lot on my mind.” I reached out and put her hair behind her ear, she leaned her cheek into my hand for just a minute. “What about you kiddo?”

“Time change?” It came out more as a question. I had seen her tense when I called her kiddo and it just fed my ego even more.

“Sure. How have you been anyways?”

“Oh living the dream, it’s good to be back home.” she sat on a large rock looking over the river and I followed sitting as close to her as I could but not looking at her. I had to resist not ripping her tiny shorts off right here on the trail and giving in to my fantasies.

“Your meltdown seemed rough, you all good?” I started throwing a ball for Sam just to give my hands something to do.

“It’s not as juicy as everyone thinks. I was just exhausted.” She was the worst liar I’d ever met but she’d never been the type that you could get information out of that she didn’t want to share. Dylan always came around her own time.

“Bullshit.” I looked dead in her eyes and she looked shocked. “You can feed that line to everyone else but you’re full of shit and you know it. You don’t have to tell me right now but I don’t buy that for a second.”

“Well lucky for me you don’t have to buy it.” She laughed to herself. “Let’s talk about you. Tell me more about the bar.”

“Feels like the most natural next step, I want to step out from behind the bar and start really building the business.”

“That’s really cool Jax. I’m proud of you.”

“Ya?” I smiled big whenever I thought the next steps at the bar.

“Yeah, it’s bold, and scary but really bad ass.”

“Well you know I am all bad ass.” I winked. “It is scary but I’m going to enjoy every second of it. How long are you staying in Cedar Creek?”

“Um, I don’t know honestly. I have to go back for a few things this summer but I’ve been thinking more and more about not going back.”

“Then what?”

“Who knows?”

“That’s pretty scary too.”

“It really fucking is.”

“Well I’m really glad I get to see you.”

“Ya?” She stood up and stood in between my legs daring me to touch her.

“Yeah. Cedar Creeks missed you, so not the same since you left.” I put my hands on her waist and her breath caught. I would always want to touch her, and that was the problem if she wasn’t staying passed the summer.

“Cedar Creek missed me, or you missed me?” She put her arms around my neck making it hard to not just grab her and kiss the way we both wanted.

“Can’t it be both?”

“It can,” she said unconvincingly.

“But?”

“What does that mean?

“Why does it have to mean anything?”

“Doesn’t it always?”

“Usually. You wanna get out of here?” I needed us to leave and preferably somewhere public.

“Isn’t your place just down the road?” she bit her lip at me and I was in agony on the inside.

“Ya. I meant more grab a bite. I’m starving.” And not for food I thought but I could take her to breakfast.

“Please, I’m so sweaty from my run, at least let me use your shower first.” I knew her house was way out of town and my apartment was a few blocks away from this trail. If she came in I could not keep my hands to myself but God damn I wasn’t going to say no to her.

Dylan Daniels was in my shower and I was out here waiting for her like a fucking idiot. I was getting hard at just the thought of her naked on the other side of the wall. I was going to go crazy. I ordered breakfast to be delivered, sat on the couch and waited. I heard the shower turn off and knew there were clean towels on the shelf. I hadn’t expected her to come out barely wrapped in one drying her hair.

“Can I borrow a t-shirt?” she asked so innocently. I did not want to provide more clothes for her to cover her up. I wanted to rip that towel off and fuck her right on this floor.

“I think just a towel looks pretty good on you.” I smirked.

“You’re cute,” she giggled and went back into my bedroom digging through my drawers. I should go help her but then she’d see how hard I was for her.

“I ordered food.” I called out, flipping the TV on.

“Great! I’m starving.” she came out in her shorts and my favorite baseball T-Shirt I got freshman year of college, it looked better on her. “What are we watching?” she asked, flopping on the couch next to me, throwing her legs over mine.

“Fast and Furious?” I offered.

“Ooh! Number 5? It’s my favorite.” I clicked on it as the doorbell rang, I hopped up to get the food and Sam was next to Dylan. “Can I have a blanket?”

“It’s 80 degrees outside.”

“I like blankets when I’m watching a movie thank you very much.” she said digging into the breakfast burritos I had ordered us. I walked to the closet and grabbed a blanket.

“Anything else baby girl?” I asked as I threw the blanket at her.

“Hmmm, just you.” she patted the spot next to her and I sat down with a pit in my stomach. I had to be a good brother even though I wanted to just rip her clothes off.

An hour later we had both eaten both of our food and she was cuddled next to me under the blanket I had given her. I could tell she was close to falling asleep but I didn’t want to move her. Sam was passed out on her feet, he never took a liking to someone so quickly before. He was a rescue who didn’t usually prefer women.

“Jax?” she said half asleep.

“Ya, baby?”

“Can we go sleep in your bed?” My whole body tensed at her words.

“Dylan, please don’t ask me that.” I rubbed her arm some more hoping we could just stay here on the couch where it was safe to be with her.

“Just sleep, I pinky swear. I am so tired I won’t even try to take advantage of you.” She said laughing at herself.

“If you’re in my bed I won’t sleep.” I whispered in her hair.

“You did last time.” I laughed because I most certainly did not. “Please?”

“Come on.” If she said ‘please’ at me one more time I was going to burst. I pulled her up by both of her hands and put her in my bed. I slid in behind her and wrapped my arm around her. She was asleep within a few minutes and I was stuck just holding her. It was nice to see the tension she’d been carrying slip away as her body and faced relaxed the deeper into her sleep she got. It took all of my willpower to not kiss her, to not tie her to this bed and never let her leave. I knew once I tasted that pussy I would never want anything else.
